The Sundarbans cover 10000 Square Kilometers of land and water in the Ganges Delta. It contains the world's largest area of natural mangrove forests. 60% of this forest occurs in Bangladesh; the remainder in India. The area has both local and global significance due to its diversity, uniqueness, biological productivity and rich ecosystems, with a number of rare and endangered species living in the forest, including tigers, aquatic mammals, birds and reptiles.
