সমকামিতা নিয়ে ঐতিহাসিক রায় দিল ভারতের শীর্ষ আদালত। বৃহস্পতিবার সুপ্রিম কোর্টের প্রধান বিচারপতি দীপক মিশ্রের নেতৃত্বে পাঁচ সদস্যের বেঞ্চ সমকামিতাকে বৈধতা দেয়।

ভারতে সমকামিতাকে অপরাধ বলেই গণ্য করা হত। ভারতীয় দণ্ডবিধির ৩৭৭ ধারা অনুযায়ী যদি একই লিঙ্গের মানুষ যৌন সম্পর্কে লিপ্ত হয়, তাহলে তাদের যাবজ্জীবন বা ১০ বছর পর্যন্ত জেল হতে পারে। সেই সঙ্গে জরিমানাও হতে পারে।

কিন্তু শীর্ষ আদালত জানিয়ে দিল, ৩৭৭ ধারায় সমকামিতার অধিকার খর্ব করা অযৌক্তিক এবং অপ্রাসঙ্গিক।

India gives legitimacy to homosexuality

The Supreme Court of India gave a historic verdict on homosexuality. On Thursday, the five-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Deepak Mishra, gave legitimacy to homosexuality.

Homosexuality was considered to be an offense in India. According to Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, if same sex is involved in sexual activity, then they can either go to life or be jailed for up to 10 years. It may also be a fine.

But the Supreme Court said, it is unreasonable and irrelevant to reduce the rights of homosexual under section 377.
