ক্যানসার একটি জটিল মারাত্মক রোগ। এটি শনাক্তেও অনেক ঝক্কি-ঝামেলা পোহাতে হয়। তবে শাহজালাল বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের গবেষকরা এমন এক প্রযুক্তি আবিষ্কার করেছেন যাতে মাত্র ৫ মিনিটেই ক্যানসার শনাক্ত করা যাবে।

বুধবার বেলা সাড়ে ১০টার দিকে রাজধানীর সেগুনবাগিচা আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা ইনস্টিটিউট অডিটোরিয়ামে এক সংবাদ সম্মেলনে এ তথ্য জানান শিক্ষামন্ত্রী নুরুল ইসলাম নাহিদ।

এসময় তিনি বলেন, ‘পাঁচ মিনিটের মধ্যে এই প্রযুক্তি বলে দেবে কোনো ব্যক্তির শরীরে ক্যানসার আছে কি নেই। এতে খরচ পড়বে ৫০০ টাকারও কম। আগামী এক বছরের ভেতরে মানুষ এই প্রযুক্তির সুফল পাবে।’

নুরুল ইসলাম নাহিদ বলেন, ‘মানুষের দেহে লেজার রশ্মি পাঠিয়ে শরীরের ক্যান্সার আছে কি-না সেটি জানা যাবে।’ তিনি বলেন, ‘বর্তমানে ক্যান্সার শনাক্তে যে প্রচলিত পদ্ধতি রয়েছে সেটি বেশ খরুচে। এখন অল্প খরচে ক্যান্সার শনাক্ত করা সম্ভব হবে।’
